Apple releases $300 'Mac Book'

Apple has released a new 'Mac Book' in order to thank its myriad fans. Only this release may turn a few away ...

The new Book is exactly that – a book. Yep, it comes in two sizes, the smaller one for US$199 and the larger for US$300.

Released to celebrate the last 20 years of Apple design, and dedicated to late Apple founder Steve Jobs, the book contains 450 photographs of Apple products shot in high detail (but not with the iPhone 7) on white backgrounds.

“The idea of genuinely trying to make something great for humanity was Steve’s motivation from the beginning, and it remains both our ideal and our goal as Apple looks to the future,” said Apple’s chief design officer Jony Ive. “This archive is intended to be a gentle gathering of many of the products the team has designed over the years. We hope it brings some understanding to how and why they exist, while serving as a resource for students of all design disciplines.”

Marketing Angels Michelle Gamble says that, with the release, Apple is being "a bit arrogant".

“It may be seen as being a bit up themselves, but for Apple, that’s not a bad thing. That arrogance is again synonymous with their brand,” she says. “They’ve always been very confident.”

Do you think Apple's new Mac Book is a cheeky or clever way to get even more market exposure? Did you click on the link expecting a cheap Apple computer? I certainly did! What do you think of Apple's marketing?

Well this thread is flop.

Don't interfere so much and get a proper job.

What do you think Foxy?

Campbell, it often takes a good 24 hours for a new thread to gain traction here. Some people only look here once a day.

I think you should be put out to pasture. If you don't like a thread put up by a member of staff, just leave and don't let the door hit you on the  **** on the way out. Their site, their rules.

I'm not an Apple user, so won't take advantage of this.

No it is our site

So you're a shareholder? Didn't know that.

Then you have all right as a share holder to give your opinion about staff posting.

I am not fond of Apple products at all --

I love 'em, especially desktops/laptops for graphic production ... such detailed clear screens ... user since 1987.

Apple products - the creme de la creme!

I presume the new "MacBook" is going to be a very limited edition as I can't see many buying it and damn it Leon I got quite excited when I saw the first sentence as my old MacBook needs replacing and will cost probably 5 times that for a "real" one. Grrrr.

:) The MacBook 'book' ain't for me and I'm putting off getting a new MacBook Pro ... not the device but the fact that some of my favourite software programs may not work or will be available by annual subscription only. Grrrr too from me Vivity.

It is definitely going to be in the category of a "collectable".  In 20 years time they will almost certainly be changing hands for over ten times this listed price.  Which for most of us, will be no use at all.  But may be worth purchasing three or four for each of the grandchildren to inherit.

If anything goes wrong you can't take an Apple product to an IT you have to take the thing to Apple and that can be many miles away -- also the Mobile phones do not get out in many many places

The problem with your problem is that Apples have far fewer problems than any other operating system computers.  Also, their telephone support for Apple hardware and software problems is 24 hour and quite good.  I say this as I'd had a problem with Mavericks not letting me download updates from the App Store. This was on my MacBook Pro that is over 4 years old.  I'd tried all of the suggested fixes with no success.  I called Apple one evening to book an appointment at an Apple store, but had a call back within 5 minutes.  It took nearly 2 hours on the line as we went through the fixes that I'd already tried and a few that hadn't been tried by anyone before. In short, the problem was resolved and have since updatd to Yosemite.

There are several Apple user clubs scattered around the country and most offer discounted remote area memberships with telephone support as well.

All of the security up dates are free and are available as soon as they are identified.  Once you make the move to Apple, you'll curse yourself for taking so long to do it.

Totally agree the other point Couldabeen, is about IPhones not connecting  it depends on whether with Telstra or not, and if not with Telstra there is poorer coverage with any mobile not just IPhones.

THe iPhone was with Telstra got rid of it and got a Sony -- it gets out fine

Always have had a Mac and have never been disappointed with usage. My first Mac was a blue one and about 10 Gig and I had never used a comp before. After half an hour I was hooked up and online looking at what ISP to pick but it took me another half hour to master the laser mouse to properly before I got one.

I agree with other comments about upgrades/new machine in that not all things can get used by the new systems. I have not upgraded on the last two upgrades because no need really even if free.

Basically all comps have the same structure etc but Macs do deliver on what they say.

Like Apple products, but think this is a bit too gimmicky. Can't see any reason to get it.

I have heard that Apple are doing away with the USB ports

MacBooks (the electronic ones) are great. The iPhones and iPads, and the even smaller gimmicks, just annoy me. They are toys, not real computers.
