Apple urging users to download update or face a “devastating hack”

Users of Apple devices are being urged to download the new iOS 10.2.1 update or risk exposing themselves to a “devastating hack”.

After Apple discovered 12 major vulnerabilities in its operating system, it has immediately reacted by releasing a safer version 10.2.1.

Apple users are being cautioned against clicking on dodgy videos that lead to the installation of malicious software that “can add files, delete files, or execute any actions” and “record conversations and forward them to someone else”.

If you haven’t already received a message from Apple notifying you of a software update, you can go to ‘Settings’ > ‘General’ > “Software Update’.

I still use ios9 on my old iPhone and iPad as my understanding is that Apple want you to keep updating the software so that eventually the hardware will become too outdated and won't work, forcing you to buy a new phone and/or iPad.

Miranda. That happened to me with my iPad. I was advised to only update every 2nd to 3rd update so iPad will last longer.

My mums iPad is still working well because she never updates and they were bought at the same time.

Only  problem is some apps will not work unless updated.

You two are symptomatic of theconspiracy theorists who inhabit this site.

Apple do not want you to be hacked as it will reflect badly on their product.  And, they actually care about their customers.

Stay up to date (at no cost) to protect yourselves.

Very true. We each have an iPad and a MacBookPro between us, as well as a Dell for the Microsoft part of the world, and always update them all. Not updating is similar to reading yesterday's paper. This isn't a dress rehearsal.

Mine is an old iPhone 4, just checked, my OS is iOS 9.3.5 and says it is up to date, so the new updae may only apply to newer phones anyway. Need to go check my iPad. And my Mac. Like fast Eddie we have Apple & a Dell.  I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10, wish I hadn't done that, as some of my programmes no longer work.

Leon is right. Keep up to date people. There are nerdy hackers out there working around the clock to earn a living powning those who fall behind.
