Bad Language

I am finding that the Television and movies are using Four letter words more and More. As an Oldie I do not like it and do not watch any show that says Course Language. I have made complaints to the Minister and Television Stations to no avail. I cannot watch much on television except hildrens shows. Even some PG shows have four letter words. I am at my wits end what to do.

Does anyone else have this problem?

I think you just have to get on with life -- its a sticks and stones thing,  no one can live in La La land -- I can remember when I was very shocked at bad language but I take it or leave it these days -- and often even use it myself  -- not in mixed company when out  --- I guess I am a realist -- there are some wonderful Docos you can watch no bad words there

Robi

Actually you are probablyright . Swearing is common in all societys and I guess Aboriginal People also swear in their own dialect as well as English.

I agree that some children have the ability to now right from wrong and it goes back to the Parents. It is obvious to me that you are one of the good guys and you are teaching your Grandkids the right way. To ask a parent or Grandparent "Is this wrong" shows a good upbringing. I suport you in this.

:) Thanks Sidney ... I taught little kids for over 45 years and they have the most amazing moral compasses at around 6-10 years old. Guess we just have to be patient and discuss with them their experiences, ideas and perceptions.

Strange as it may seem, the most incredible conversations with kids that age came from some horribly 'disadvantaged' kids in terms of parental guidance I've ever encountered. Their home circumstances were just awful but despite unspeakable abuse and being locked out of their houses, they turned up for school each day. Their perseverance was incredible to me and I told them so each day. Hope they're OK now.

You haven given in too the Dark side. Not me.

I do not know what you mean by  "the dark side "  I am a very moral person OK I can have the occasional  swear -- but the goings on these days would make a cat swear -- IF you are aware of them

I do not allow anyone to smoke in my house....haven't for forty years...ten years ago I also stopped people from smoking in my garden...Well..I haven't lost any friends and it has even helped some to give up smoking..

It's the same with swearing and bad behaviour...not tolerated...hasn't stopped visitors coming....

I consider my home my space...if someone doesn't like my rules...they need never come...however what they do in their space is their business and if I don't like it...then I don't have to go there...

Perfectly reasonable.

Thea

My sentiments exactly. I did the same thing. Still got most of my friends. Did loose a couple though.

 Thank you both -:)

I wouldn't like people to smoke in my home but if they wish to go out side I will be happy to provide them with a chair and ash tray

Thea -  The renters next door to my place have a large dog, dogs are not allowed on the premises. I told her but they look at you as if you are from another planet. I told her maybe she could have got a cat for her children but she said, "Oh no, my daughter is Asthmatic", I almost said ," But you and your husband smoke", but i shut up as I didn't want to start an argurment.

Smoking in a house with children is child abuse.

Seems to be two threads on this topic.

Happy to say...some of us are not the only ones who are taking a stand on bad language in public places.. I was having coffee with a couple of friends today in a lovely cafe which was quite full and tables were close together..

Next to us sat two very well dressed women ...having a conversation and each sentence punctuated with F's and other swear words...after ten minutes it got too much...my friend leaned over and asked one of the ladies whether she could tone it down...she didn't..so I walked over to the manager and sought his assistance...

He came over to their table and told them if they couldn't or wouldn't watch their bad language...he'd have to ask them to leave..

They left....hooray....

How embarassing it must have been for a lady like you Thea

... having to listen to all those pluck a duck strories

must have been like experiencing a menapausal flush

On the contrary Abby...I was not embarrassed at all...nothing embarrasses me..I was just annoyed...I prefer to have my meal and coffee in congenial surroundings...and..the owner of the establishment agreed...

As for being a lady..don't let that fool you...I am highly trained in self defence in a "ladylike" way of course.. :)

"Menopausal flush"...I must be one of the lucky ones who never experienced one in my life...some women don't you know..I had a talk with my doctor and asked why I didn't. His response was...being fit and healthy are prime factors...

Enjoy your Sunday dear....

Important to keep the mind fit and healthy too Thea. It is Saturday today, not Sunday.
