Controversial broadcaster dumped after ratings slump
Controversial broadcaster Alan Jones has been dumped from his hosting gig at Sky News, with his last show as host happening on Thursday night.
Despite a huge marketing campaign trumpeting his acquisition by the network, he has struggled to bring in an audience and his controversial statements about COVID-19 contributed to the station being banned from YouTube for one week and forced a series of apologies.
The Daily Telegraph also severed their relationship with Jones earlier this year.
Jones wrote a lengthy Facebook post defending his time on the network.
"When I arrived at Sky News and was signed to a 17 month contract, it was made quite clear to me that the 8PM slot was, in the words of management, a “dead” spot," he wrote.
"In my brief time that I have been at Sky News, the audience at 8PM has significantly increased."
Did you watch Alan Jones on Sky News? Will you miss his contributions?
I don't think he will be missed at all. He was full of his own self importance and just to listen to him interviewing someone he would continually but in and never give the other person a chance to speak.
