Controversial broadcaster dumped after ratings slump

Controversial broadcaster Alan Jones has been dumped from his hosting gig at Sky News, with his last show as host happening on Thursday night.

Despite a huge marketing campaign trumpeting his acquisition by the network, he has struggled to bring in an audience and his controversial statements about COVID-19 contributed to the station being banned from YouTube for one week and forced a series of apologies.

The Daily Telegraph also severed their relationship with Jones earlier this year.

Jones wrote a lengthy Facebook post defending his time on the network.

"When I arrived at Sky News and was signed to a 17 month contract, it was made quite clear to me that the 8PM slot was, in the words of management, a “dead” spot," he wrote.

"In my brief time that I have been at Sky News, the audience at 8PM has significantly increased."

Did you watch Alan Jones on Sky News? Will you miss his contributions?

I don't think he will be missed at all. He was full of his own self importance and just to listen to him interviewing someone he would continually but in and never give the other person a chance to speak.

Passed his use by date years ago, his treatment of Julia Gillard perfectly summed up what sort of "man" he was!

"what sort of "man" he was!"  is stretching it a bit.  As a man, I object to being lumped in to the same category as Jones.

He was an embarrassment to all mankind with the garbage he used to spout.  He should pack his traps and go to America where he belongs with his Trumpian trash.

Jones is a self opinionated prick always was always will be...good riddance

Couldn't stand his arrogance ... good riddance.

They should have dumped him sooner, not now when he is rolling in millions !!

Waiting for Sandilands to self-destruct

Agreed, Sophie ... agreed.

A nasty, nasty little man.

Did I say he was a nasty little man? No I did not!

I could think of some other very nasty little men!!

Sophie, I agreed with you.

"A nasty, nasty little man" was my observation.  No where did I attribute this to you.

Arghhh!!!

No loss.  Actually getting dropped from Sky News takes a special kind of talent.  That mob of weirdos and misfits make Trump look good.  Peter Credlin next?  One can but hope.

Having said that I detect a slight shifting in the 'Murdochracy'.   Advertising revenue dropping maybe?

not too much love for Jones among YLC readers if the above comments are an indication.

I wonder if it might have been different a few years back (before the YLC platform change) when there seemed to be more engagement and diversity among YLC commentators.

Ignore the knockers Alan. A credit to shock jocks everywhere.

2GB's 'irreplaceable' Alan Jones easily replaced in the ratings by Ben Fordham | Amanda Meade | The Guardian

Good on ya Alan Jones AO, they are jealous.

Ugh.

Will you please stop replying to my posts with words even my two year old  grandson would not use!!  How old are you R&R?

I particularly detested how Jones treated people like idiots. Surely, that's the government's job.

And the government has made it an art form.

Definition from Oxford dictionary

this is what Jones was employed to do and he increased his audience population by over 50% in the given time slot with SBS.

If you have a look at facebook there are hundreds of thousand dedicated listeners who will miss his what is now considered as misdirected sense of humour  ... almost seems like a part of me too movement.

I do not listen to radio talk back shows, have no time. Can't remember listening to much of Alan Jones only what has been reported in the news.

However, he brought in millions of revenue, he assisted in many charities reaching their goal and he also donated from his own money.

Unfortunately, the rabble minded people only see the bad in people and turn a blind eye to the good they have done!!
