Cyclists ride for dementia
Cycling enthusiasts Nick Young and Pierre Sullivan, together with 80 cyclists, are preparing to undertake Dementia Australia’s biggest national community fundraising event – the Bondi2Berry Ride to Remember.
Established in 2016, the Bondi2Berry Ride to Remember has raised more than $131,000 for Dementia Australia. This year the ride will take place during Dementia Awareness Month in September. Riders will take off from Bondi on Saturday 8 September with a target to raise more than $100,000.
Dementia Australia CEO Maree McCabe said events like Bondi2Berry are fantastic and not only raise funds but also awareness to help reduce the stigma and social isolation that can be experienced by people living with dementia, their families and carers.
“Dementia Australia sincerely thanks event organisers Nick, Pierre and the team for putting together an event that is fun, challenging and provides a great opportunity for people to come together and support Dementia Australia’s important work,” Ms McCabe said.
“On behalf of the estimated 425,000 Australians living with dementia, I encourage all those who want to donate to this fundraising event to visit the Bondi2Berry website and give generously."
Both Nick and Pierre have parents diagnosed with dementia, and are pleased to see their passion for cycling turn in to a shared passion for raising funds and increasing community awareness about dementia.
“We are proud to see the Bondi2Berry ride grow, and excited to be back this year to help raise awareness of dementia. All of the riders participate because, like most people in the community, they are touched by this condition, and want to contribute to finding a cure,” Nick said.

As a cyclist of many years, this is one of my favourite events and I shall most certainly be taking part.
Remember folks, dementia does not discriminate, so give what you can.
