Do you drink from a can?

Just wondering if you ever drink straight from a can - be it a beer or just a soft drink. Do you wash/wipe the can before you drink from it? Just think where these cans have been stored. I've heard of a woman who drank from a can and became very ill. It wasn't the contents, but the external rat pee/poop that had been deposited on the can before she bought it. Most of us think that there's no problem. The germs have died. Seems it's not really true, some can be re-activated after the application of just that little bit of warmth, supplied by our lips. I know I'll never look at a can again - always a glass for me, after I have given the can a bit of a rinse.

Hello Bev.

I used to drink from a can.

NOT anymore. Like most I never thought about the can's hygiene!

I was always worried about a bee or wasp entering the can un-noticed and then swallowing it. (The bee that is).

Using a glass will solve that problem as well!

Thanks.

Best wishes.

Peter.

I never drink from a can or a bottle unless I use a straw--(I mostly drink water from my own container anyway) and I always wash the tops of canned foods b4 opening

Thanks to Bev. I rinse every can or bottle before I open it now.

I never really thought about it previously. :)

I even do this with the milk bottles--I also take the ring off the neck off the bottle

(the one that attaches to the lid) just in case it comes loose as it has been known to choke animals once the get their head through it--and can't get it off and as they grow it chokes them I then cut it in half.

That is a good idea Jane. I have not had a carton of milk or a milk bottle in the house since way back I cannot remember lol. I have said before Oh I am allowed to repeat myself so I will.

My cute husband and I either one of us makes 2 litres of milk from skim milk powder every night (just Aldi) or Safeway) not Coles in the pink packet as this does not mix as well and this pays the bulk of our rates as we save $800 a year just making this milk. I hear what you are saying though and we should all be very careful re our pets and those pesky germs. I never look at cans the same now :(

I do keep powdered milk in the cupboard in case I need it--but really do prefer the other

I drink from a can only at BBQ's when there is no alternative.....but I am very watchful...for my biggest fear is a wasp crawling inside...they seem to be attacted to cans. Never though about cleaning the top....thanks, will keep it in mind.
