Eligibility for Pension Living Overseas

I have some confilcting views on eligibility for aged pension when living overseas

I have just turned 65, still working full time and plan to retire and move to France towards end of 2017. I will apply for the aged pension prior leaving Australia as I know this can continue to be paid to me on a slightly less rate without some supplements.

My wife will not be of official retirement age however will be less than 1 year from then, the plan is that we/she will return to Australia and apply for the aged pension. Once this is confirmed the plan is she will return to France sometime soon after, maybe one month. Will she continue to be paid the aged pension living in France and the 2 year rule does not apply.

We both have the full 35 years+ status living/working in Australia.

If you are 65 then apply for the pension then you will get a number and the process begin also register for the bonus scheme and report your income as you go ..... the bonus scheme will reduce the amount of income you get and maybe your pension or part pension will be untouch.

I did that and continue working until 70 and my pension was never reduced I earn about 450 x week and with the bonus that was reduce to nothing so I suggest you register for the pension and your wife should do the same ASAP .....

Good Luck and if I can help you just let me know

You will get the reduced pension as follows:

Base rate pension + 22.10 suplement ....thats it no medical or any other support you get in Australia just the base rate and the reduced suplement thats it ......

My late mother was on the Aged Pension and came to the UK [in 2000]  where my husband and myself where living at the time.  Prior to leaving Australia she had to register with the then department for the Aged that she was going outside the country for a period of six weeks. They were happy with that but under the rules we were told no Aged Pension would be paid outside the country after a six month period. Have the rules and regulations changed?  It sounds as if they are.

Hi Ann,

The rules are very simple ... have a look on the web for living overseas under Human resources site.

If you stay in Australia for over 35 ??? years(Check on the web) ..she will get the full pension exept for Rental Assistance and other .

She should get the basic rate of the day + 22.10 suplement thats it no medical or any other thing just that ..... That is what I get in O/S ......
