Genealogy

genealogy. [j?′n? äl′? j?, -al′-; jen′?-]. Use genealogy in a sentence. noun. The definitionof genealogy is the study of your ancestry and family history.

About 5 years ago this was very popular with some in fact at times boringly obsessively so.

It did have its good points gave a good understanding of where one had come from and also longegevity in particular families.

this week I was asked something by one of my grandsons and said I would look it up - the page had disappeared so I asked someone in England who had been involved. Apparently no younger people could be found to take an interest and so they had combined with the American Branch and no longer have big Annual get togethers unless arranged by the American Branch.

Anyone on here involved in Genealogy and which are the best free/cheapest search engines?

Viv,

I used Ancestry mostly and some other lesser sources.

Fortunately a relly who had been collecting info for some thirty plus years sent me all she had as did an elder brother.

I think they want me to write it up into some sort of family history. I prod the pile of papers and files occassionally but havent as yet done much with it.

I noted one ancestor had written a book around 1934, went and had a look on line and found a copy. Fascinating when that sort of thing happens.

I also found out over time that most oral family history was folklore, some facts but most of it could not be relied upon.

Pretty much found all I want, it all sits awaiting further ministrations.

Take it easy.
