I was surprised -- and disappointed --that Matt Canavan was allowed to stay as there is no doubt he lied that his -- Mother -- took it upon herself to make him an Italian Citizen.
I was disgusted that Barnaby was able to stay on -- AT ALL

barnaby criticised the two greens members who acted with integrity and resigned immediately they found out they were dual citizens. he stated that they should repay their salaries and fringe benefits.
will he now apply his logic to himself? 13 years as an MP would be quite a bit to repay. bet he keeps it all.
and what about all the votes on legislation made by "illegal" politicians? will these now be valid?
Yes the Greens were the only ones who acted with ethical integrity. Obviously the Nats, Libs and One Nation do not conduct themselves with the same integrity.
Barnaby has not only caught himself out by his own dirty politicking but yeah, he has been collecting an illegal wage from the Aussie tax payer. His irresponsibility has now also cost us more with paying for a by-election. Of course he won’t pay anything back....the people will just have to suck it all up.
I’m not sure about your third point kika because the coalition can call on the speaker to vote if Labor demands a re-vote on the issues that were close, so the results would probably be the same unless someone crosses the floor. Will have to wait and see what happens.

How on earth could anyone spend $1,073,991.45 in 6 months? I wonder what he spent it all on? And $670,000 on an office fit out? One could build a luxurious house for that money. Mind blowing!!!

One of the people who helped put the constitution together wanted to throw a bone to dual nationals but was shouted down. Sir John Hannah Gordon was a South Australian delegate to the Australasian Federal Convention that drafted the constitution.
He wanted to add the words "or who has not since been naturalised" to Section 44.
That would have allowed people to be elected if they had become British subjects.
But he was shut down by others who were there:
Patrick McMahon Glynn: "You cannot have two allegiances."
Sir Edmund Barton: "No; a man might have to go out of our parliament to serve against us."
Sir George Turner: "He may be minister of defence."

Hope so. It’s a pretty conservative electorate though so unlikely he will lose. If Windsor couldn’t beat him last time around I don’t know who can.

Never saw James Packer, but I have often said his Father would be downright ashamed of him -- not that I had any great love for Kerry either BUT he was -- or seemed to be up front -- James carries on like the spoilt BRAT he is
The letter of the law was followed, in any other case ignorance of the law would be no excuse, this case is no different.
It is still a stupid law in this day and age, but it is the law. I would like to see the advice that was given to MT by the Solicitor General, I think it may prove that Barnaby should have stood down.
I hope Barnaby has to GO -- and I hope he has to pay back what he owes the country too.

This sort of funding should be deducted from workers' pay packets for both parties.
The government already does this Frank, it syphons off hundreds of thousands of dollars from taxpayers contributions to provide "Public Information" literature just before elections, otherwise known as propaganda.
So I guess all we have to do is give the same amount to the opposition and all will be equal.

Bishop acted out of loyalty to her client, DeathsHead Dutton acts like a Nazi, and seems to enjoy doing so. I could live with him having to do a miserable job, but this fiend deliberatley distresses people and does it with a smirk on his face.
All lawyers act in the interests of their clients...guilty or not guilty. That is how the legal system works whether we like it or not. We would not have any lawyers to go to if we based our opinons of them on the people they have defended. That is their job...their personal opinions of those they are defending have to be put aside.
I think she is a very clever politician and I understand she is very good company and has a great sense of humour.
As for all this claptrap about whether they are citizens of another country...as has been said ....people are fed up with all this bs and want politicians to be focussed on running the country instead of this rot.

I was surprised with the ruling on Matt Canavan. What is the difference between his case and Barnaby Joyce’s case? Both were citizens of another country by virtue of their parents, neither knew they were and neither of them investigated or attempted to renounce their foreign citizenship. So what was the difference?
