Legendary drummer dies aged 83

The drummer who played with Elvis Presly from 1969 until his death, Ronnie Tutt, has died aged 83.

Elvis Presley Enterprises broke the news on its website on the weekend, saying it was "deeply saddened" by the news.

Ronnie Tutt played drums for Elvis as part of the TCB Band from 1969 until 1977.

He was part of the band put together by James Burton for Elvis’ 1969 Las Vegas opening – and stayed with Elvis until his death in 1977.

Ronnie later toured with Neil Diamond's band. He also recorded and performed with the likes of Johnny Cash, Glen Campbell, Kenny Rogers, Elvis Costello, Stevie Nicks, Michael McDonald, among others.

In a 2016 interview with an Elvis fan club in Australia, Tutt admitted that he was "never really a big fan" of the star until he met him at an audition for that tour. "Once you meet him and you understand the charisma that the man had, you just can't help but love what he does," he said.

"We immediately had a great rapport. Visually, our eyes were constantly watching each other."
