Our 28 yr old Son Died from Sleep Apnea
by D. Clark
(California)

We did not know our son had Sleep Apnea. He was 28 years old & passed away July/ 11/2011.

He was spending the weekend at our home and we heard a snoring noise from the room, my husband and I checked on him, turn him on his side and the snoring stopped.

We were not aware of him having any type of sleep disorder. The next morning I went it to wake him & found him deceased.

He leaves behind a 7 year old son, fiance, brothers & grieving parents. We intend to advocate, educate, & get people to get tested for this disorder.

Yes, Sleep Apnea does cause death.

I hope it helps.

What a dreadful ordeal for all concerned Phyl It is indeed a serious problem, that you are well aware of isn't it ?

True,  Dusty Tadpole. Peter wears a CPAP to sleep as he stops

breathing many times all night without it,  so the above was a post by

someone on the Sleep Apnea Board he checks often and we felt it might

help others.

My son-in-law has sleep apnea, but thought it'd cost too much to do anything about it.  Recently he discovered he had diabetes and high blood pressure at the same time, so now he's undergoing a difficult life change with my daughter being the sole bread winner.  He doesn't seem to be taking it seriously.  Maybe that's just a mask.

I slept little for years because one child, a son, experienced extended periods of breathing interruption when sleeping.  Scary for the throat infections.  He also suffered ear infections, as some boys do.

Because of the anti-tonsillectomy sentiment from public health that reigns in recent times (and was probably correct in some cases but the overreaction is over the top), doctors and the specialist kept waiting.

It was only when the son was in mid-primary and I presented long videotapes taken over many days and he had yet another throat inflamation that the procedure was finally performed.  The improvement was immediate.  God knows how he would have coped as an adult.

I stll have a broken sleep pattern and as usual will wake at any noise from the now young adults.

This can be a real problem--my Son has it also plus the high B/P and diabetes---I worry so much about this

Nautilus, Doctors have their own ideas and sometimes just will not listen to parents who live with their kids 24/7 and know when things are not right.

......

Your son has a lot to contend with Jane so what can he do other than  keep everything under control which with diabetes and B/P is achievable with diligence on the right meds.

You have your own things re your health so canno't afford to worry too much as you need to keep your spirits up as we all do. Many people manage their conditions so well while others become lax and then trouble starts it seems.

..

Has to be a terrible struggle for parents with little kids with diabetes and injections and pricks every day and more than once a day at that and checking checking all the time.

Yes Phyl and he being a long way from me is hard as I worry about his health--maybe more than he does
