PBS Safety Net threshold lowered – 1 January 2020

From 1 January 2020 the PBS Safety Net thresholds have been lowered:

  • from $390.00 to $316.80 for concessional patients
  • from $1550.70 to $1486.80 for general patients.

As a result of these changes concessional patients/families require 12 fewer PBS scripts filled each year in order to reach the safety net. For more information on the Safety Net and the lower thresholds, visit the Department of Human Services website.

Pharmacists will need to apply the lower threshold amounts when issuing Safety Net entitlement or concession cards. Pharmacists can access information on the Safety Net at the Department of Human Services PBS Safety Net for pharmacists website.

However, MR Hunt -- health minister -- has confirmed with the PBS and some meds have gone up quite a lot -- one of mine I used to pay $13 for I now pay $22.99 -- AND the ones on the concession card are now $6.60 instead of $6.50 last year --

You get nothing for something with this government.

What's new with this government. Take from the people who have paid their taxes for years while the Big boys play less each year.

Boo hoo! Plan. You are still way better off than someone paying $39 and up for just about everything.

Yes I know KSS, I do have sympathy for those that do -- my Son is one

Be careful concessional users. It is better to pay $6.60 per script that the $5.60 that some chemists charge. 48 scripts is better than 57 on the latter. I usually get free scripts for my hubby & myself in June. But now with the new pricing, I will get them by the end of April.

Scripts have been going up 10 cents per year for over 20 years.

Good to hear that some will be better off Star Trekker

Isn't it interesting that we get good news about a saving for those who need medication but immediately we read comments telling us how badly the government is going. Just a gentle reminder folks, Shorten lost the unlosable election, get over it.

Agree.

I really have NO idea as to what your statement related to Horace --

I was stating that meds have gone up a heap -- due to  'Hunt" conversing with the drug companies so we were given with one hand but taken away with the other

As a single pensioner I have never ever reached the threshhold.  When I was in a car accident and had quite a few extra medications for a while, I came close, but as the amount is per family, a singleton is very unlikely to get any benefit, whereas most couples that I know, do.

I usually get mine for free in October and I am single
