RIP Paul Cronin

Australian actor Paul Cronin has died, aged 81. He is the most awarded actor in Australia, alongside Martin Sacks.

Born on 8 July 1938, he played iconic roles in the Australian television series Matlock Police and The Sullivans and won the Silver Logie five times, including three years consecutively from 1978.

The son of a farmer in South Australia, after leaving school Cronin became a farmer himself and learned to shear sheep. He later married his wife Helen, who gave birth to four daughters including twins.

After giving up farming in South Australia, Cronin eventually found his way to Melbourne where he worked at an engineering company. It was at this time that he became a bit actor on various Crawford Productions including Division 4 and Homicide before securing his most famous roles.

I tried to respond to this topic last night but just got that 'please wait' button then nothing - but I'll give it another shot.

It's sad to see the familiar TV and movie faces from our earlier days disappearing.  It seems every day another one bites the dust.  I never really got into 'The Sullivans' but remember Paul Cronin from the show 'Solo One',   My son would have been around 5 years old at the time and loved that show - and motorbikes.

He had pyjamas with little motorbike prints all over them and one of those little three-wheel plastic dinky toys that he called Solo One.  He would ride around the yard singing a line from the show's theme song, "My best friend's a motorbike and it's just called Solo One."  Great memories.  Incidentally, he still loves motorbikes.

RIP Paul, you were one of the good guys by all accounts.

Sad sad news, but I didnt realise he was from South Australia and did sheep shearing. Now that helps me to understand why my dad liked him so much, he was also a sheep shearer that ended up living in South Australia.

HE wwas in some good shows,     i liked him,   R,I,P,
