Tesla 'self-driving' car crashes while in auto-pilot
Figuring that maybe it had gotten ahead of itself, Tesla had to remove the term “self-driving” from its China website after a driver in Beijing crashed into a parked car while in autopilot. While both cars were damaged but no one was injured, the driver complained that Tesla had over-emphasised the car’s capability and misled drivers.
Telsa also removed the term “auto-pilot” from the China website but has since reinstated it.
This was the first reported crash in China, however, there has been a fatal accident in Florida that occured when the driver was at full-speed, resulting in pressure put on car executives and regulators to tighten industry rules for automated driving.
Developers are working hard to iron out the kinks of self-driving technology and until they do, accidents are likely to happen, especially when drivers become complacent. Do you, like me, agree that its the drivers' faults for not paying enough attention? Or should all the technology be perfect before its released to the public?
