Vaccine maker claims updated jab could defeat Omicron

Vaccine manufacturer Moderna has announced clinical trials of its updated COVID vaccine provided a “potent neutralizing antibody response” against the BA.4 and BA.5 Omicron sub-variants.

These Omicron sub-variants are driving the bulk of COVID infections at the moment, so being able to neutralise the spread is paramount.

“This is a strong, powerful antibody response,” says Paul Burton, chief medical officer at Moderna.

“It is probably long lasting and I think the conclusions are that boosting or primary vaccination with (the updated vaccine) really could be a turning point in our fight against SARS-cov-2 virus.”

Would you consider getting the updated Moderna jab?

Well I've had 4 Moderna jabs to date, so why not one more?

I've read pending approval, the new booster could be supplied to Australia in August.

Lets hope this bivalent vaccine meets the claims.

I am due my fourth jab early July, should I wait till August to get this one or will I be able to get them both?

In view that last month, Australia led the world in per-capita COVID-19 infections, I personally would not depend on something that might happen.

Make sure you've had your flu jab as soon as possible as the also the winter jab when eligible - apparently you can have both together. I had my flu jab when it became available and then my covid winter booster when I became eligible 4 weeks after my 3rd Booster.

Just my opinion - if unsure talk to your doctor about it.

Of course! Silly question.

Oh how I hope so.

We're up to date with all our jabs. Pfizer is our choice of vaccine.
