Virginia Trioli to leave ABC News Breakfast

Virginia Trioli says she expects to make "great radio" when she replaces veteran broadcaster Jon Faine on ABC Melbourne's Mornings show.

Trioli will leave the News Breakfast television program, which she helped launch 11 years ago, when she takes the helm on ABC Melbourne when Faine retires at the end of the year.

Trioli has been at the national broadcaster for 20 years, and described the chance to host Mornings as a "once-in-a-career opportunity".

"I'm absolutely thrilled to be taking on one of the most precious radio jobs in the country," Trioli said.

Speaking on air on Wednesday morning with Faine, Trioli said she wanted to promote a "contest of ideas" on her program.

"Any view is welcome, bring your best, make your argument. Listen, attend, think and keep your mind open," she said.

"We'll also hope to have a lot of fun along the way."

Who should replace Trioli on ABC New Breakfast?

Can't really say that ABC morning news is of any real value at all! Just seem to be two talking heads engrossed in idle chit chat instead of any real news. They spend about five minutes with some item or other , then its waffling on about sport from the sports person.

I want REAL news. I get more information from the subsripts under the doubtful duo than they actually talk about.

SBS or AL jazerra has better news coverage!

Virginia will be sadly miissed from ABC Breakfast. Good luck though to ABC Melbourne listeners.

Could be worse, you could have to put up with the blithering  idiots on 7 and 9.

I must be missing something.  I haven’t listened to breakfast radio for over 20 years.  Even driving to work, I listened to music from a CD, not morning radio because I always thought it was inane.  I simply do not understand why Virginia would leave a top National morning show on television for morning radio, or indeed any radio program.   A picture is worth a thousand words after all, and all that rabbiting on on radio just gives me a headache.

I want the old Aunty back!

The one where interviewers were focussed on facilitating the open and detailed comments that allowed us to understand where those interviewed were coming from and their reasons.

The very last thing I want is adversarial, opinionated shockers like the overpaid, eye-rolling, ignorant celebrity hack that is Virginia Trioli and the forever grinning, lame-duck metrosexual that is Michael Rowland.

Why waste hundreds of thousands of dollars a year per each for salary alone (their entitlements would be far beyond that) on these posing celebrities and be paying the creative people in the background so poorly?  How hard is it to find mighty mouths - dead easy.  How desperate are the sheeple who need dominating know-alls like that to make up their mind for them and be telling them how to live?  Is that what morning news has become on the taxpayer-funded national broadcaster?  That rubbish can be bought anywhere, but independence, professionalism, principles and service to the community is what the ABC should be about, always.
