Would you watch a dating show for older people?
The US ABC network wants to create a version of the show Bachelor starring seniors.
A casting call was put out for “seniors looking for love” in an episode of Bachelor last week.
“Are you entering your golden years and looking for romance? The producers of The Bachelor are looking for active and outgoing single men and women in their golden years for a new exciting dating show,” reads the casting page.
ABC reality chief Rob Mills confirmed the network is looking for people 65 and over and US TV executives think older people looking for love could be ratings gold.
TV commentator David Knox from TV Tonight is a fan of the idea.
“Senior Australians are grossly under-represented on Australian television and dating shows are notorious for focusing on the pretty people – that’s despite older viewers still watching free-to-air television in big numbers,” he said.
“Like any show, everything would come down to the casting and format.
“Given advertisers are focused on young demos, it might be a better concept for a public broadcaster.
“Shows like Old People’s Home for 4 Year Olds prove you can get big crowds to cleverly packaged programs, and Love on the Spectrum is another example of looking at other sections of the community.”
What do you think of this idea?
I think it's about time! It would be fun to watch providing the Bachelor or Batchelorette is an interesting, open minded, non-bigoted person open to fun in life. Don't want fuddy duddy oldies who might give our age group a bad name :)
