Would you watch a dating show for older people?

The US ABC network wants to create a version of the show Bachelor starring seniors.

A casting call was put out for “seniors looking for love” in an episode of Bachelor last week.

“Are you entering your golden years and looking for romance? The producers of The Bachelor are looking for active and outgoing single men and women in their golden years for a new exciting dating show,” reads the casting page.

ABC reality chief Rob Mills confirmed the network is looking for people 65 and over and US TV executives think older people looking for love could be ratings gold.

TV commentator David Knox from TV Tonight is a fan of the idea.

“Senior Australians are grossly under-represented on Australian television and dating shows are notorious for focusing on the pretty people – that’s despite older viewers still watching free-to-air television in big numbers,” he said.

“Like any show, everything would come down to the casting and format.

“Given advertisers are focused on young demos, it might be a better concept for a public broadcaster.

“Shows like Old People’s Home for 4 Year Olds prove you can get big crowds to cleverly packaged programs, and Love on the Spectrum is another example of looking at other sections of the community.”

What do you think of this idea?

I think it's about time! It would be fun to watch providing the Bachelor or Batchelorette is an interesting, open minded, non-bigoted person open to fun in life. Don't want fuddy duddy oldies who might give our age group a bad name :)

I would love to go on that show but Ive 10 years to go before Im eligable....working in aged care I can assure you there is a very good reason why no one wants a lot of detail....love yes...and it would be a very different show as well!

Sign me up immediately.

There are three stages in life for a woman, a lover, a mother and nurse.   No thanks!

What a great idea, I just thank heavens I'me happily married.....third time lucky! Lol

About time, I am sick of seeing young attractive people on TV in all the dating shows etc. Time for oldies to get a look in. They have done shows like the Undateables which was interesting.

No ... as I don't watch dating shows anyway.

Snap!!   :)

i would definitely watch it. At least the first couple of episodes. And if they were interesting I would continue to watch it.

I think older people would love to watch something they can relate to instead of all these younyes fllauntring across

across the screen I personally dont watch as you have seen one and you have seen them all as all the same only some times different characters !
But boring to warch every year same old same old !
Give up older ones a go and I bet you will have usa watching in droves!
I would enrol for it as have been on my own for over 20 years and it would be different entirely to see whAT us oldies can do and do it with more decoram than these young ones  doe sure !

No way would I watch a dating show with old folk, unless its an old guy trying to date a young woman or an older woman trying to hook up with a young chap. That would be more interesting!

Kringger,

You have copied off my post at the top of the page written 5 March. Now why would you do that? Why would anyone duplicate someone else’s post and call it their own? Into the naughty corner with you :)

I would watch such a show with pleasure. I think it will be very inspiring for many elderly people to overcome loneliness. I have already noticed there are many dating sites for people over fifty. They give many hints https://mylistcrawler.com/listcrawler-cleveland-2 on how to start dating at every age. And even if you are over 70, it is also the right time for dating. Just do not close in yourself, stay open to new acquaintances.

i would watch it, but i certainly wouldnt go on it, no reason why older people should not find at least companionship, if not love, [or lust] whatever your after, old saying, wheres theres life, theres hope, lol,

I may watch it 1st up to see what it was like -- but may not continue -- it would depend on how fair dinkum it seemed -- if it was like the other younger one -- I wouldn't be watching it for more than the 1st show
