WOW son of Deputy Commission of Taxation in deep trouble!

Awoke to the news about the son of the Dep. Commission of Taxation. No doubt everyone is across it by now.

The fraud is believed to be in the vicinity of $165 million.

I hope the group of nine (so far) get a long stretch in jail (if found guilty) and everything they own is confiscated and as much money as possible returned to government coffers.

How involved or not the father is in this fraud is not known.  He may have had no idea but who knows!!!

I hope these "b............ds" (when found guilty) get 10 years jail with no parole and also everything they own is confiscated and any proceeds paid into the government coffers to help towards our welfare bill.

I am quite enraged by this whole saga as I am sure everyone else is as well!!!

Agreed

ans i hope you've paid the $100 tax you tried to evade all those years ago

The former girlfriend of Adam Cranston uploaded videos to YouTube documenting lavish overseas holidays she said was paid for by her boyfriend.

Toni Brady, 24, from Sydney, met the 30-year-old alleged leader of a $165 million tax scheme through a mutual friend over drinks in 2015.

That same year Ms Brady posted videos to her YouTube page showing her enjoying a luxurious trip to France where she dined at fine restaurants, bought designer clothing and stayed in a hotel 'suite'.

She also filmed herself flying first class back home.

In one YouTube video captured in Paris, Mr Cranston makes a brief appearance, although he is never named.

GROSS INCOMPETENCE FROM THE ATO

How could they not pick up that the gorss PAYG tax deducted from employees for all of Plutus Clients did not match the cash received in their bank for ALL THOSE YEARS

heads should roll at the ATO

Employers caught up in an alleged fraud ring accused of stealing $165 million can contact the Australian Taxation Office to find out if they will be liable for tax that wasn't paid because it was being siphoned off by a criminal syndicate, the agency says.

And employees and clients of the company at the centre of the alleged fraud, Sydney-based payroll company Plutus Payroll, will not be penalised when the amount reported as being withheld is not actually paid to the ATO.

The ATO on Monday issued a statement aimed at alleviating concerns that innocent parties caught up in the alleged fraud would be penalised.

"Workers will not be penalised when the amount reported as being withheld is not actually paid to the ATO," the agency said.

DAMN RIGHT THEY SHOULDNT BE PENALISED. THEY GOT THE RIGHT AMOUNTS DEDUCTED FORM THEIR SALARIES !!!

hahahhaha

JUST READ THIS

Mr Lapidos said "significant weakness in the ATO's data matching systems" had been exposed.

"The ATO does not match all employer payroll summaries against individuals' tax returns," he said.

"Perhaps the alleged criminal syndicate was aware of this.

wankers - this is ouR tax department

run by and staffed with bufoons

Is this the same matching system that the government is using to monster people on welfare and the Pension Entitlement?  If so it sort of proves a point.

You can not blame the worker if the boss does not provide adequate tools.

no its not

the system  would have been developmed by the sotware company based on specifications given by incompetent public servants

and the idiots dont have the brians tpo see the loopholes in the system after years of its operation.

outsource the ATO to private company and they'll get rid of 90% of the public servants for sure. No private company can afford to employ fools

Good riddance !!!

The deputy commissioner of the Australian Taxation Office has appeared in court for the first time following an investigation into a $130 million tax fraud scheme.

Michael Bede Cranston, 59, is charged with two Commonwealth offences of using information obtained in his capacity as a public official and exercising influence in his capacity as a public official.

The 35-year veteran of the ATO, who was considered to have an "illustrious" career until he was charged on May 17, has been suspended while the criminal matter is afoot.

He has since chosen to resign, effective from Tuesday.

Six of the 11 people charged in relation to the scheme — including Adam and Lauren Cranston — face a maximum of 10 years in prison if found guilty.

RIDICULOUS !!!! They will be out in 2-3 years

How much money have they stashed away overseas and in the other vehicles . Will live like kings for the rest of their miserable lives

The daughter is about to give birth any day....wonder if she will spend one day in jail now??

She apparently is looking at a 10 year jail term if convicted!!
