Got Any Good Vet (animal) Stories?

What a lousey 3 days i have just had,my beloved crazy feral cat "Moggs" was clipped by a speeding driver on the wrong side of the road,I let him out on Wednesday morning to go to the toilet and as I had to leave for a fortnightly Doctors visit (250 klms round trip ) I was in a rush so i left him outside.

I got back at 3:30 pm ( i left at 8:00 am ) and heard this awfull crying,I looked over the side gate and my beloved Moggs was lying in the grass in the rain.Found out he was hit at 10:00am,so he was there for 5 1/2 hours. It was pension day and after all my shopping i had $30 left and an emty fuel tank,I picked him up and took him inside and he was ice cold, give him a cuddle and dried him off with a towel and grabbed my wheat bag that i use on my neck and heated that to get some warmth in him, what a terrible state he was in,and pain,my God everytime i touched him he gave a howl.

I got his water bowl and thankfully he drunk nearly 200 mil of water,he was pretty dehydrated and i knew my local vet is only Tues and Thurs, this is the problem with living in a very rural area, there is absolutely zero facilities,I phoned the closest major town 100 klms away and the vet i normally take him to who have taken a lot of money from me told me they will not see him unless i gave them $210.00,are you kidding me,I told them i dident have the money but could organise a loan,I asked for 3 business days, these scumbag vets said, sorry no money no look at cat.Mongrels,I knew the vet in my town was open in the morning so I sat up all night with Moggs, just keeping him warm and every half hour i fed him water from a straw dipped in his water bowl, what a night it was but I'm not complaining, this is my mate.

Got him to the Vet in morning, told them i had no money, they said "lets get the cat looked at first, talk money later"

Well,it was all hands on deck,I have never come across a more caring, dedicated crew in my life,it was like a Hospital Emergency Room,I was gobsmacked, and still am!

They got some methadone in him and his body Temperature was 33.4 they told me that is very low,put a drip into him and told me when they have him stabalized they will take him to D......... to have him x-rayed in the afternoon.

Good News, yippee, they called me when they got back to town at 6:30 pm to go and say hello to him and look at the x-rays,his little pelvis is broken in two places (hence his howling) and even though it should be screwed, the Specialist Vet in Perth who she sent the scans to said it may have a good chance of healing and would take 4-6 weeks of Moggs being caged at home and basically nursed by me back to health, than God for that,I asked about payment, she said to me,we will work out a payment plan, but later on,how kind are these people compared to the first vet i phoned.

I left the Vet's Clinic and she took Moggs home with her for the night because of his drip,I pick him up in 3 hours, sore, sorry but alive.

Hope you liked our little story, there are still some caring people around the place.

Next thing i have to do is find the driver of the car,one neighbour gave me a good description, the neigbours on the other side said they saw and heard nothing? thats crap, the driver is a frien of theirs and is always driving drunk and parks on the wrong side of the road always,I like revenge,I hate the fact they dident stop to help Moggs, they all know him, pack of mongrels.

But Moggs is alive and I will try heal his pelvis no matter how tough it is on both of us.

Moggs today, claws out and ready to go!

He's doing well!

Aw Shucks,no-one loves you Moggsy, poor Moggs, poor Moggsy Moo! lol

So glad MOggsy is on the way back to normal. So sad when our beloved friends get hurt as we feel for them.

My vet story isn't a happy ending one, but I can not fault the Vet.

Took our black and tan cattle dog into the wet as she was losing weight and listless. A few tests and a X-ray showed she had cancer. It was showing as white blobs about 1/2" diameter throughout her chest and up near her spine. The Vet said 4-6 weeks would be all she had left in her condition. The Vet also noticed that she had a spur on the iinside of her spine facing the internal organs, and he said I will give you some pain killers for that because it would be very painful.

Not to be outdone or beaten by cancer, I started her on a course of my own design of medication and literally at times in the early stages when she didn't want to eat, I shoved it down her throat. When 6 weeks had passed, she had her normal weight back, her eyes were once again bright and alive,  and in fact she had put on a little more weight than normal. I took her back to the Vet and had another X-ray taken. Yippee some of the cancer spots had reduced to only a 1/4" in diameter and others had disappeared altogether. Of course the Vet was suprised she was still even alive.

Some months had passed and all was going okay. But she was having increased difficulty in moving around. Back to the Vet again, and this time he said unless you want her doped to the eyeballs to stop the pain, it was better to let her go.

Christian was brilliant, never had a vet like him before or since. The dog/pet was top priority, you came next. Nothing was too much trouble when treating the Pet. And when the time came to say goodbye, it was private between 4 of us, us and the Vet and our dog. No tying down the pet, no laying all over it to restrict its movements when the injection was inserted. It was as pleasant as you could get, if that word could be used in this instance, no stress on the dog whatsoever, in fact we were feeding her when she went to sleep.

Its now 7 years later, and it still feels like yesterday. It is something I doubt we would ever get over. Made worse by losing both dogs within 11 months of one another.

I am contemplating moving Vets too, as the one I have is getting too big. In 5 visits I have seen him personally 3 times and the other 2 ocassions were with 2 different people. As soon as the Vet practice has more than one Vet, its time to move your butt to somewhere else.

Thats a nice story beemee, its very sad when your pets get old,Mum and Dads German Sheperd developed cancer at 17 years, but it was best to put him down, pretty sad mate, how old was your dog?

A good vet is a Godsend for the pet and its owner, mine is brilliant, and like your vet,my Moggsy came first and second, i came third, i dident mind neither!

Sorry Mate!

So glad that Moggs' doing alright Billy, you've done a grand job and love the pics too

Thanks Maggs, not the best pictures but thats an iPhone for you,hes a good cat,I love him to bits!

Well Moggs is getting better by the hour,so will keep you updated.

Billy and Moggs

Both my 2 were over 15 years old. Sad they do not have the life expectancy of us humans, because I sure as hell would not have had any kids. They would have been more than enough.
