Australia Post chief earns 10 times more than the PM
A Senate committee has denied a motion to keep secret the salaries of Australia Post executives.
It has since been revealed that Australia Post's Managing Director, Ahmed Fahour, took home a total salary of $5.6 million last year.
That's 10 times more than the Prime Minister earns.
The Senate committee, cahired by Victorian Senator James Paterson, released the information saying it was in the public interest.
"For your future reference, the committee emphasises that it will not agree to information being provided on a confidential basis outside of the estimates process unless a compelling case has been made that public disclosure would harm the public interest," wrote Senator Paterson.
It is beleived that Mr Fahour received a $4.4 million salary with bonus and $1.2 million in superannuation.
The Government-owned business enjoyed a $36 million profit in 2015-16, yet major job cuts occurred in 2015 due to the decreases in its traditional mail service.
