New Zealand's 'stunning' $5 note named the best banknote of the year

New Zealand's 'stunning' $5 bill has been named the best banknote of the year. The bill was picked out of 40 notes from 20 different countries. This award is given annually by the International Bank Note Society, who said that out of the 150 bills "over three dozen" were eligible for nomination, including Sweden’s 20 kronor note, Russia’s 100 rouble note, and Kazakhstan’s 20,000 tenge note. But the Society said New Zealand’s $5 polymer note was a “clear winner”.

What do you think of the design?

a good idea,   one im interested in,  i did try to go back on mine,    and did a few,  but then stopped.    will get round to it one of these days,

It's wonderful.

Yis, et looks a gud note. Es thut Rusty Crowe?

It's Sir Edmund Hillary - you an read his name on the note itself - DUH!!

Ta.

Legs,

Yes, now that you have mentioned that I "AN" read it.  DUH!! Yourself.

Looking at the decorations on a $5 note would never inspire me to call it stunning or have me concerned as to what is the world's best banknote.

However I do think this one from NZ is better than our Aussie note.

Ours should depict things that are Australian for a start , so how about getting rid of another country's monarch and replacing it with an icon such as Slim Dusty. On the other end or side, display one of our unique animals such as a kangaroo, a wombat or a koala , echidna or kookaburra.

Main thing is to make it Australian.

Good to see you back Gerry :)

Must agree with the Australian unique animals ... forget about the human icons unless it is somebody like George Clooney or Malcom LOL

.......or Les Patterson.

Good one Fast Eddie

Smileycons!

I am happy to see people who have achieved greatness on paper currency - not celebrities or pollies or sportspeople - pioneers so we all have something to aspire to.  Lets face it there would not be enough space on paper currency for a Kardashian's rear view!

That's rather rude.

Kim HAS asspired.

Very true though

I like that Sir Edmund Hillary is featured on the note, but I'm not too sure about the object on the right hand side. Wish I knew what it is.

I thought that too Banjo. Are there any Newzealanders in here that could enlighten us...

Its very attractive whatever it is.....

Banjo and cranky here it is on a clearer background. It's a collection of NZ flora and fauna surrounded by a frame of fern

New $5 banknote.

This pic shows it clearer. Thought it could maybe be their coat of arms.

No it's not their coat of arms this is

Image result for NEW ZEALAND coat of arms The coat of arms of New Zealand is the official symbol of New Zealand. The initial coat of arms was granted by King George V on 26 August 1911, and the current version was granted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1956.

Thankyou Regan and Sandi..

That's much clearer... I have never seen their coat of arms before...

It's very nice.

Rest of the new NZ Banknotes

Looks as if they kept the Queen on the 20 Note after all

Rainbow money....Such beautiful Notes.

I would have trouble spending it..

Well perhaps not, but it would make shopping a very colourful experience...!
