WHO'S GOT SORE KNEES
Hi All
For the second time in the last 5 years or so my knees are "playing up".
Last time I took glucausomine plus Green Lip Mussel capsules.
Fixed it until now. But the GFC has had it's impact on my ability to buy as in the past.
Monthly visit to the Chiro tomorrow am; will ask if everything is in line/place and get his opinion.
Don't know what I'll do if walking to stay fit is taken from me.
I'm on here to ask what others have done. I'm not overweight, 62, and otherwise reasonably fit.
Opinions appreciated please.
I just joined up. I think the oily fish (has to be oily to have omega 3 oils), fish oil caps, and Glucosamine (studies showed no difference having the Chondroitin in), regular gentle exercise is all you can do. Rest a bit though if acutely inflamed. Could put on cold or hot packs, whatever feels the best. Podiatrist would say that you need to be checked for specially made shoe inserts too, as wrong support in shoes can cause knee and hip problems. Over 50 years, most people have some arthritis, and yours will probably be osteoarthritis, and that is not caused by uric acid, but possibly genetic factors, wear and tear, years of not having omega 3 oils, as none of knew that we should be having them in the past. They are studying causes of osteoarthritis and changing their minds a bit there, used to be blamed purely on wear and tear. Panadol Osteo would be good if you want to start on the analgesics. My mum is riddled with OA and has progressed through the analgesics and is up to a Fentanyl Patch 50, and has had both knees done. She is 77 yrs old. Must be a bit hereditary as my spine has it, not knees though, but neck can feel pretty bad. Have taken glucosamine for over 10 years, will stay on it, it takes 6 weeks to do anything, and it mildly assists with the pain, and some studies have shown it may help cartilege not to deteriorate. Also Vitamin C is good, as that helps with cartilege too, I take 500 mgs of slow release one. If I think of anything else, I'll write it. I did assignment for uni on OA and am an Rn in aged care, and with mum, am very interested in it. Kind regards,
