New YLC forum on the way – we want your input to help us make it great!

Hi there YLCers,

We’ve been working very hard to make the new YLC website a much better experience for you and the feedback we’ve received has been very positive. We’re constantly working to make it even better and, with your input, that process continues.

Now we’re turning our attention to the forum. We’ve received member feedback about the existing forum needing a clean-up and an update. We’d like to ask you for your input to help us make the YLC forum an improved online community experience.

We need to know:

  1. Which forum threads you’d like us to bring across to a new forum platform? We can’t bring them all, but we may be able to migrate the top 20 threads. It’s your call as to which ones come along.

  2. Which features would you like to see included in a new forum? This may not happen in the first instance, but we will certainly work towards including as many features as we can.

  3. We need to cull some categories. Which ones must come across? Which ones would you like to see on the new forum (if they don’t already exist)? We’d like to keep the forums succinct, so keeping them general works to this end.

  4. Have you signed up to comment on the YLC website (not the forum)? The new forum will require you to do so. This means you will need to register as a ‘new’ user. You can use your existing login details, but you will need to re-enter them via this link: https://www.yourlifechoices.com.au/rcp-register/. Once you do this you'll be able to comment on the website articles and the forum with a single login. If you have already registered to make comments, this will be your new login for the forum (once it has launched).

We’re taking all input and feedback up until 29 August and we’ll be looking to launch a basic new forum by the end of the month. So get your feedback in fast! We’re happy for you to add it in this forum thread or to email to drew@yourlifechoices.com.au

With your help we can make the new forum a great online experience!

I had a look at the new “sign in” procedure for YLC and am very surprised it asks for a person’s postal code which YLC says will be seen by “everyone.

In this age of scamming and identity theft I am truly amazed that such information is requested on a public seniors' forum. Why?

Disclosing postal codes is not as innocuous as it may seem…it allows people to track you and information can be shared with other companies. The purpose is usually to figure out your address so that you can be put on a mailing list and bombarded with junk mail or nuisance calls….not to mention giving scammers a free run!

From a legal perspective one should be very careful who you give your postcode to.  You should treat your postcode in the same way that you treat any other personal information such as your name or street address or phone number or email address.

You  asked for input Leon and this is mine.

Hey Sophie, just wanted to respond on the postcode. I've included below the image from the registration page. I can understand how you may think the 'Everyone' field was for Postcode, but it is actually for the name field (above the notification). People can put in any name they want just for your information, or simply repeat the username they want to use.

Any postcode information is only able to be seen in the profile by the member.

Hope that clears that one up for you!

Thanks for the reply Drew. However…it still does not make any sense to me because members know their postcode anyway. So the purpose it seems is to share the postcode with other companies.

If other members don’t mind having a multitude of emails each day that's OK but personally, I don’t have the time. Also it appears one has to tick the box to receive twice daily newsletters from YLC!! Blimey…who has the time?

Today I went into my email which I use for YLC and there were literally dozens. I read none of them…however…I had a look at the new YLC website and found that most enjoyable and will certainly be reading that when time permits.

My comments are not meant to deter anyone but I have to be honest. Cheers!

Thanks Sophie.

We do not pass your postcode on to other businesses. It's simply a way to keep tabs on where you all live so we can keep our content relevant.

Cheers,

LeonYLC

Have a great weekend Leon and thanks for the response!

I was/am confused. To the best of my ability I followed the procedures to log in, I felt I needed to open a new account, my old account still exists,

Thanks

A humble request please. As mentioned before, I got what little wisdom I have from my religious sojourn at an ashram in India. All was going well until one old relic kicked me out because every time I crossed my legs in the yoga lotus position I fell over. Since this happened too frequent for his liking, he politely asked me to vacate the yoga shala and return my yoga chataee.

I did so with a sad heart, but not before I learnt a thing or two. I realised while I was sitting there plotting my revenge and how I could get even with the old f**t, I had tapped into something. I had triggered the beginnings of time travel. Now I wish to explore this further so the name of my thread would be “Can yogis learn to time travel”. Thank you for considering this request.

All the best with your plans, my only request is please keep it easy to post both text and images with no need to login for each session.

I would like to see Private Message feature come back ...surely there could be a block put on for people that did not want it

Also it would be convenient if under the avatar, the state could be put in. In discussions people give advice from their state which may not be relevant to a member from another state, seeing we have different rules and laws in between the states.

I agree with RnR and Suze. It would be good if you brought back the Private Message feature as I used to enjoy writing to Members, and also as Suze said "Also it would be convenient if under the avatar, the State could be out in".

Think I've ruffled enough feathers, so nothing more to say...except....for those not wishing to insert an avatar...perhaps YLC can use an initial for e.g:

looks better than a ghostly image!

All good – and thanks for your feedback.

We have a plan to launch the new forum this week and, with your help, we'll build it together. We appreciate that this is your space, so we'd like you to have input on the new 'playground'.

We'll keep the 'classic' forum running for a few months while we create and refine the new forum. Happy to bring some of the popular posts along to the new environment, but at the start, we'll be starting with a fresh slate.

Stay tuned!

Thanks for the update Leon, as for the forum being a "playground" no one wants to play with me. Now they want private messaging so they can start picking on me behind my back. Don't do it, don't give them private messaging especially Hola, and where's Cat? Haven't seen her for a while.

Lucca - You've had it in for me for a long time now, always sarcastic to members you don't like. Poor little

Cats, she is a fun person and I miss her humour. Don't forget that old Proverb:

"Before You Judge Me, Make Sure You're Perfect."

My mom thinks I’m perfect but since I am not wanted here, as soon as I get myself out of this jam, I’m outa here!!!

Goodbye everyone, parting is such sweet sorrow.

Good luck with the new forum guys.

I can't get into the new forum. The auto password is not recognised. So I ask for password reset and when I click on the link in the email it says: "

Your password reset link appears to be invalid or expired."

I have just been going around in circles. Very frustrating
